• Mental health nurses can learn about new career paths and role development at an NT conference on 7 February 2008.  Transforming Values into Action looks at changes resulting from developments such as the CNO review of mental health nursing and the Mental Health Act. www.nt-mentalhealthnursing.co.uk

• Applications are now open for the RCN's Northern Ireland Nurse of the Year 2008 awards.  The awards recognise individuals and teams from students to directors of nursing.  Entries close 31 January 2008.  For applications call 02890 384600.

• Former CNO for Scotland, Anne Jarvie, has been appointed a new non-executive board member at NHS 24.  She is joined by former deputy chief executive of NHS Lanarkshire, Martin Hill, and owner-manager of Business Perceptions, Kay Blair.

• Lothian midwife Ruth Close has won an award for her work helping a bereaved mother deal with the loss of a newborn baby.  Ms Close won the Midwife of the Year 2007 title at an award ceremony run by NT's sister title Mother & Baby on 29 November.

• The NHS Working in Parternship Programme has launched a website to help nurses and other clinicians better support patients in self-care.  It will bring together worldwide research and resources for professionals. www.selfcareconnect.nhs.uk.
