All care services have been rated for the first time by the Commission for Social Care Inspection.
All local services, including care homes and home care for older people and those with disabilities and mental health problems provided by either local authorities, the NHS, or the independent sector, have been rated in a star system ranging from zero to three, signifying they are 'poor', 'adequate', 'good' or 'excellent'.
The ratings show that 70% of care service providers have achieved an 'excellent' three star or 'good' two star rating. Only 3% of the 24,370 providers have a 'poor' zero star rating which means they do not meet the rules set by the commission for adequate service provision.
