NT'S training campaign petition has been presented to parliament by Dr Howard Stoate (pictured), MP for Dartford and a member of the Commons health select committee.
More than 1,100 nurses signed the online petition, which called on the government to ringfence nurse training budgets.
Speaking in the Commons, Dr Stoate said: 'Since 2005–2006, more than £500m has been diverted from multi-professional education and training budgets to pay for other services. Both mandatory and non-mandatory post-registration nurse training have been severely reduced across the country. The situation continues, putting nurses' career progression and patient safety at risk.'
