THE British Heart Foundation has funded a new academic nurse post at the University of Glasgow with the aim of combating heart disease in Scotland.
THE British Heart Foundation has funded a new academic nurse post at the University of Glasgow with the aim of combating heart disease in Scotland.
Susan Kennedy has been appointed to the role of lecturer in cardiac care, the only such position funded by the BHF in the UK.
As well as previous teaching and research experience in cardiovascular disease, Ms Kennedy spent 11 years as a practice nurse.
'The role of nurses in treating patients who have had heart problems is increasingly important,' she said. 'Having nursing staff with this expertise is vitally important in Scotland. We have one of the worst heart disease records in Europe.'
Ms Kennedy has already developed CPD courses in managing cardiovascular
risk and cardiac care for the university.
