Cardiff nurse Jo Potter has won an award for her outstanding contribution to military nursing while on a tour of duty in Afghanistan last year.

Ms Potter was given leave from her role as a clinical nurse specialist in HIV at Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust to serve for six months with the Territorial Army's 203 (Welsh) Field Hospital.

As well as providing sexual health care, she volunteered for shifts in the field hospital's ICU and emergency units, and took responsibility for the welfare of the army's interpreters. She has been awarded the first ever Glover Prize for reservist of the year.
'It was an incredible experience and very thought-provoking,' said Ms Potter. 'You go and do your job without really thinking about it. So the award was unexpected but I'm very proud of it.'
