A NEW website for nurse mentors has been launched by Napier University, a nurse education centre in Scotland.
A NEW website for nurse mentors has been launched by Napier University, a nurse education centre in Scotland.
The online resource, Mentorcentre, was designed to provide mentors of nursing and midwifery students with the information they need to be able to work as a mentor and to support students' learning in practice.
The site contains up-to-date information on mentoring and provides access to course and programme documents.
While some of its information is specific to the university, it also contains useful tools for mentors and students all over the country.
A discussion forum allows users to communicate with fellow mentors and academic colleagues. The aim of this is to provide quick, reliable answers to any questions or concerns mentors may have.
Mentorship is a key element of all nursing students' training. It entails nurses working closely with students in clinical areas, supporting them to achieve their placement outcomes.
Achieving these outcomes is crucial to students' ongoing participation in pre-registration nursing programmes and plays a very significant part in determining whether students will go on to qualify and register with the NMC.
The Mentorcentre offers mentors a unique and vital resource, says Napier University's senior lecturer in nursing, Barbara Neades.
She said: 'The work of mentoring is very challenging. We hope that this new website will provide mentors with a range of resources and support mechanisms that will give them the tools they need to meet these challenges.'
