Women who are at high risk of having a child with a neural tube defect should increase their daily intake of folic acid from 4mg to 5mg, according to the latest publication of the British National Formulary.
The new edition also gives guidance on preventing infective endocarditis where antibacterial prophylaxis is no longer recommended for its prevention in patients undergoing dental and non-dental procedures.
Reflecting the latest guidance from the NICE, it warns that prophylaxis may expose patients to the adverse effects of antimicrobials.
The guide also provides information about the emergency treatment of anaphylactic reactions and the management of chronic heart failure, angina and myocardial infarction, following the latest SIGN recommendations.
