Report shows benefits of smoking ban

Local NHS stop smoking services have experienced a 20% increase in demand since smoking was banned in enclosed public places in July 2007.
The Department of Health report Smokefree England – One year on reported a 22% increase in the number of successful quitters through local NHS Stop Smoking Services between April and December 2007 compared to the same period in 2006/07. There was also a 23% increase in the number of people setting a quit date.
Bar workers in England have also benefited from a marked improvement in the air quality of their working environment.
A survey, carried out by the BLF of more than 1000 people with lung disease found that more 56% have had fewer attacks of breathlessness associated with passive smoking in pubs and restaurants since the smoking ban. 39% reported that the ban has helped keep to them out of hospital.
