Certain brands of powered wheelchairs should not be used as a seat in transport vehicles as they may be too heavy, the government's medicines watchdog has warned.
Some variants of the Puma and Beatle battery powered wheelchairs, manufactured by Movingpeople.net or Handicare are too heavy for standard four-point webbing tie-down systems used in transport vehicles, according to the warning.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) advised users of these wheelchairs not to use them as a seat in transports using the tie-downs until they can verify it weighs less than 140kg, the warning said.
