Three quarters of people with asthma in Wales do not have a personal asthma action plan, according to a report published by Asthma UK Cymru to mark its third anniversary.

Wales has the highest average rate of hospital admissions for asthma compared to the rest of the UK but authors point out that as many as 75% of these admissions could be avoided with good asthma management.

They point out that people with asthma action plans are four times less likely to require a hospital admission for their asthma.

The report found people with asthma living in deprived areas of Wales are most likely to feel that their asthma is out of control, to say that the condition has limited their lives and to have lower expectations of how their asthma treatment can help their condition.
