RCN CONGRESS LATEST: Resolution moves to protect PRB

The independent NHS pay review body must be protected, according to a resolution passed by congress yesterday.
It follows the government's move last year to ignore the PRB and stage the 2.5% pay award, and this year to push for the 2.75% recommendation to be implemented only as part of a multi-year deal.
The resolution, submitted by RCN Doncaster branch, called on congress to 'protect and maintain' the PRB. It was passed unanimously by 99.4%.
'I fear for the future of nursing without a PRB', said resolution proposer Sheila Maye. 'I believe we should be pressing for politicians to follow the tried and tested method,' she said.
District nurse Jeanie Sowerby, from Eastbourne branch, said: 'The government want to get rid of the PRB so we have to fight 100% to keep it.'
Islington branch member Cecilia Anim added that the profession needed a PRB 'with teeth' and that without it nurses would be faced with going back to local pay negotiations.
