Comment on: Should Christmas be celebrated on the wards?
I think christmas should be celebrated on the wards in all hospitals throughout the UK, as patients find it hard enough having to stay in hospital over the festive period. My reason is that it will help to make patients stay a bit more bearable. Some good christmas music too would be good to instill a cheery christmas spirit amongst staff and patients.

Comment on: Malnourished patients go unnoticed
I agree with all the above commetns on this issue. There needs to be adequate staffing, so that a patient's intake of food is monitored. Lets get this hungry to be heard campaign out on the road, and ask older people what they think about this issue, after all they're the service users at the end of the day, and may know a thing or two about what consists a good meal. Lets also give the MUST screening tool, objectives to HCAs as they are the ones actually doing the bedside nursing now, and they could be easily trained in how to use it, feering up trained nurse time, to do rug rounds, PEG feeds, IVs etc. common sense always worked, so lets get back to it.

Comment on: Private care home nurses linked with NHS
What a good idea, its about time care home nurses were given proper guidance on issues such as diabetes and end of life care, and also continence issues, as these can present a problem in care homes, if the incorrect products are used, e.g. incontinence pads and catheters etc. Whoever came up with the initiative well done to them. (manchester PCT).

Comment on: The high impact actions for nursing and midwifery 4: your skin matters
All these suggestions, are all very well, but with short staffing in all hospitals across the country, this has an impact on quality and timely patient care. I have worked as a HCA and saw some of the worst pressure ulcers you could possibly imagine. Sometimes a paitient would be left in one position for too long, the recommended time beibg not more than 2 hours, before repositioning. If there were more front line junior staff on wards these occurrences would be a lot rarer! Sack the incompetent managers who know nothing about, how wards are run, and then the money they are paid, buys at least 6 or 7 more staff!!

Comment on: Nursing support for vulnerable mothers could be axed
Again a lack of staffing has been known to compormise patient safety, when will this all get sorted?? We as a country have had enough of pen-pushing non-experienced polititians making the rules. The rulings for thsi asnd other forms of healthcare, should come from the clinicians ,who have the necessary expertise and training. Then maybe they would decide how many staff are adequate in each working area/department.
