Campaign to promote workplace learning for NHS staff
A national campaign is under way that focuses on workplace learning to help NHS staff maintain skills in maths, English and other areas.
Research has shown an environment that supports learning can lead to improvements in patients, while also boosting a worker’s development and career prospects, as well as workplace morale.
The Social Partnership Forum (SPF) is overseeing the Learning for Life campaign. It has this week been letting NHS organisations across England know about a detailed online toolkit.
The online facility supplies organisations with the tools and everything they need to create first-rate local learning programmes that focus on support workers - pay bands one to four. Campaign materials such as case studies and posters are also available to assist organisations.
The campaign encourages organisations to create learning scenarios that relate to the workplace. Recent research indicates the vast majority of staff feel convenience and familiarity are the best aspects of workplace learning.
Health minister and SPF chair Dr Dan Poulter said: “Workplace learning is hugely important - it helps NHS staff gain valuable skills and experience.
“We know making sure the right development opportunities are available also helps staff stay motivated to provide the very best care for patients,” he said.
“Employers should use these campaign materials to help support a stronger culture of learning and ongoing personal and professional development in our NHS, which will benefit both patients and staff,” he added.
