Private mental healthcare provider Cygnet Health Care has appointed a former nurse as its new chief executive.
The company is the largest provider to the NHS of acute and intensive care mental health services.
David Cole, a mental health nurse by training, has also held senior positions with Priory Group, Lighthouse Healthcare, and a number of other companies.
These included being chief executive and chair of the former residential care provider Castlebeck. He left four years before the Winterbourne View scandal overtook the company in 2011, which ultimately lead to it going into adminstration and being sold.
Mr Cole has been chair of Choice Care Group for the last five years. He will replace Ken Wilson who announced his retirement in November.
Mr Cole, who will take up his position on 1 April, said: “I am delighted to be joining Cygnet at such an exciting time in its life.
“I have been hugely impressed with the team, the facilities, and the quality and governance which make Cygnet such a successful and modern healthcare operator.”
