  • Comment

The Royal College of Nursing’s regional director for Yorkshire and the Humber has retired after 30 years with the union.

Kevin Austerberry joined the RCN as an assistant officer in 1982 and became regional director for Northern and Yorkshire – latterly known as Yorkshire and the Humber – in 1985.

Glenn Turp, currently regional director of the RCN in the Northern region, will step into the role from 1 January 2013, becoming regional director for both regions.

Mr Austerberry said: “I will look back on my time at the RCN with pride.”

Among his work was a special project during the late 1990s and early 2000s to help Polish nurses achieve better status and learn political influencing techniques.

He led an RCN delegation to Krakow to help train and advise the Polish Nurses’ Association.
