Stuart McKenzie has been elected as the new chair of the Royal College of Nursing’s annual congress.
He was elected unopposed and succeeds Rod Thomson, whose term of office finished at the end of this year’s congress, which was held last month in Liverpool.
Mr McKenzie is currently vice chair of RCN congress and will step up to the top job at next year’s annual conference, which is scheduled to take place during June in Bournemouth.
Commenting on his election, he said: “It is a huge privilege to take on this role.
“I am looking forward to it enormously and hope to repay the trust members have shown in me,” he added.
Mr McKenzie is a clinical nurse manager in forensic and rehabilitation services for NHS Ayrshire and Arran.
Two candidates – Linda Bailey and BJ Waltho – have been nominated to fill Mr McKenzie’s previous role as vice chair of congress.
Voting for this election opens on Monday 21 July and will close on Wednesday 27 August 2014.
