NMC apology over Mid Staffs FTP cases

The NMC has apologised over the delay in dealing with fitness to practise cases involving nurses from the Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust.

The NMC has apologised over the delay in dealing with fitness to practise cases involving nurses from Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust.

However, there is a discrepancy over how many nurses are facing investigation. The regulator said 41 nurses had been referred to it following the first inquiry into the scandal in 2010. But the trust itself has said there have been 55 referrals.

The NMC did confirm that currently 10 cases relating to Mid Staffordshire are set to be heard, one of which involves former director of nursing Jan Harry. Seven Mid Staffordshire cases are expected to be heard in March.

The regulator recently decided another former director of nursing at the trust, Helen Moss, had no case to answer.

The delay in taking action against those responsible for poor care at Mid Staffordshires was criticised last week by prime minister David Cameron, and again over the weekend by health secretary Jeremy Hunt.

  • Yet another example of why the NMC should cease to exist, they don't even know how big the problem is let alone what to do about it. They have the cheek to waste more of our money to keep themselves in jobs that it is apparent they are unable to fulfil.
