Speaking after her election, Professor Corner said: “The contribution of UK universities to building knowledge, innovation and preparing health professionals for the health system is immense.

“I am proud to be taking on the role of chair of the Council of Deans of Health as we continue to advance this unique and vital work.”

Professor Ellis said: ”Jessica is a truly outstanding leader in health and academia.”

He added: “Under Jessica’s leadership, I am confident that the Council will continue to go from strength to strength, representing members across the UK and contributing proactively to innovation in health and social care.”
