New director of nursing starts at Wiltshire trust
Lorna Wilkinson has joined Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust as its new director of nursing.
Ms Wilkinson, who was deputy director of nursing at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust before coming to Salisbury, started her nursing career at the Royal Free Hospital in London in 1989.
In 2004 she came to Salisbury as head of risk management where she had a key role to play in the development of a wide range of patient safety initiatives and was appointed deputy director of Nursing in 2009, before taking up a similar role in Portsmouth.
Speaking on her appointment, Ms Wilkinson said she was “really excited” about her new role.
“While these are challenging times for all NHS organisations, I want to build on previous achievements here so that we continue to improve on the high standards of nursing, midwifery and therapy care that is so important to our patients,” she said.
Trust chief executive Peter Hill said: “Lorna is an experienced nurse who also has a wide range of managerial knowledge and expertise which is needed to provide high quality patient care in a modern NHS hospital.
“I know she is an excellent leader with a passion for patient safety and the provision of sensitive, compassionate care and first class nursing practice,” he added.
