iPod ‘safe with pacemakers’

Portable music players are safe to use near pacemakers, according to US researchers.

Cardiologists had previously highlighted an incident in which a cardiac patient had experienced dizziness while using an iPod.

But researchers, from the US Food and Drug Administration, found that the magnetic fields produced by the four iPod models they checked were too low to affect a pacemaker.

‘No interference effects can occur in pacemakers exposed to the iPods we tested,’ they said in the journal BioMedical Engineering Online.
