Little evidence to show acupuncture helps control pain in childbirth

There is “little convincing evidence” to show acupuncture helps control pain in childbirth, a review published online in the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has concluded.

Researchers from Devon and Korea analysed 10 randomised controlled trials involving 2,038 women.

They concluded there was little to suggest women who had acupuncture suffered less pain than those who received no pain relief, a conventional painkiller, placebo or pretend acupuncture.
