I work for a Parkinson's charity in the National Education team. I engage with health professionals, meet professional bodies, attend relevant conferences, meeting and events meeting a wide range of people. It is always amazing how people with Parkinson's manage their condition and lifestyle. Still more needs to be done for people whose lives are affected by Parkinson's, and that includes their carers.
I previously worked for a cancer charity and coordinated a nurse information campaign, Nursing Leukaemia, by the charity Leukaemia Research. We provided a nurse pack which includes a brief news magazine for nurses working with haematology patients and new titles in our patient information range.

Comment on: New MA in nursing course open to all graduates
I agree, and with the tuition fees set to go up will graduates really want to add to burdeoning debts? Some effort should be put into attracting school leavers, future generations, into nursing and making it seem as a valuable profession to go into.

Comment on: Alternative to chemotherapy for leukaemia patients
I think this has great future implications for nurses who are caring for patients with AML, generally a large proportion who are affected by this type of leukaemia. Recent figures show that there are 2250 new diagnoses of acute myeloid leukaemia each year in the UK. Nurses have to manage quite intensive chemotherapy for these patients. Symptom management and monitoring side effects requires specific nursing interventions related to specialist nursing, and often at lengthy durations. Patients who respond well to these alternative routes of treatment will have a better quality of life, less symptomatic problems and generally recover well from their disease. I presume the affect of these drugs on younger adults (13-24 years) who are diagnosed with AML - 90 a year - may also be a future group to explore. I understand the charity Leukaemia Research have funded this interesting and diverse form of treatments.
