Practical procedures

Practical procedures are illustrated step-by-step guides to common clinical procedures. Each procedure is written by a clinical expert and is based on the best available evidence. The series is designed for use in clinical and education settings.

The procedures assists:

  • Nursing students and return-to-practice nurses to find out about common nursing procedures;

  • Registered nurses to update and reflect on their practice;

  • Nurse teachers to explain clinical procedures.

Nurses undertaking any clinical procedure must have received training, undertaken supervised practice and demonstrated competence in their clinical area. Nurses must also carry out procedures in accordance with their employing organisation's protocols, policies and guidelines.
