Irene Anderson, chairperson of the Leg Ulcer Forum, has called for clearer guidance on managing mixed-aetiology ulcers. Irene Anderson, chairperson of the Leg Ulcer Forum, has called for clearer guidance on managing mixed-aetiology ulcers. Addressing the Leg Ulcer Forum conference, Ms Anderson said that 10-20% of venous leg ulcers coexist with arterial disease but the definition of mixed-aetiology ulcers was unclear. She highlighted considerable variation in the management of these ulcers: 'Although there is a consensus that reduced compression therapy should be used, recommended pressures range from 15-30mmHg and there are many ways of achieving these levels of compression.' The forum is planning to survey their members about how these ulcers are managed early next year.
