A new single UK charity for people with bladder and bowel disorders is unveiled
Trustees of both organisations support the formation of a new charity, the name is to be decided, which will continue to provide information and support for all types of bladder- and bowel-related problems for professionals and patients.
This new charity will incorporate the missions and objectives of both the Continence Foundation and Incontact and will continue to work in partnership with other charities and organisations involved in continence promotion.
Brian Buckley, Chairman of Incontact said: 'Bladder and bowel problems and incontinence are stigmatised conditions. Although common, they are seldom spoken about. For those affected, finding information or support has been made more difficult by a fragmented and confusing charitable sector, with more than one organisation apparently offering the same services.'
'No-one wants to see a charity close down, but if it is the catalyst for positive change and improvement, which ultimately helps improve the lives of those people coping with incontinence on a daily basis, and the work of those who provide care for them, then it must be viewed as a positive step forward.'
With a new identity and name, the new charity will be launched during Continence Awareness Week from 15 to 19 September 2008. InContact will be asking health care professionals to organize local events to highlight the problems associated with incontinence. It is hoped that health care professionals and volunteers will continue to support Incontact and help build on the past success of CAW and ensure that people are aware of the new charity.
