Maintain pressure on reforms to protect NHSDH appoints new urgent and emergency care tsar
The Department of Health has appointed Professor Matthew Cooke as the new national clinical director for urgent and emergency care.
Professor Cooke previously worked for the DoH as an emergency medicine advisor, where he led reforms of the NHS emergency care system.
He will begin his tenure in January 2010 in addition to his roles as emergency medicine consultant at Heart of England Foundation Trust, in Birmingham, and Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Warwick Medical School.
Professor Cooke said: “I look forward to being able to work with colleagues in ambulance services, primary care, emergency departments and secondary care to further improve the quality and safety of emergency care delivered by the NHS. Working closely with service users and NHS staff will be key to re-energising the system to bring about emergency care improvements.”
Professor Cooke has been an influential force on emergency treatment and care systems in the NHS as well as overseas.
