Maintain pressure on reforms to protect NHSMidwives call in investment pledges
The Royal College of Midwives has called on the new coalition government to honour promises made by the Conservative and Liberal Democrat parties to invest in midwives and maternity services.
Louise Silverton, deputy general secretary of the Royal College of Midwives, said: “In the current economic climate, real challenges lie ahead. Funding needs to be sustained into the future, and I will be seeking clarity on the government’s future spending plans for maternity services. Money spent on maternity services, is money saved on care in later life.
“Now that they are in power, I will hold the Conservatives - and their coalition partners - to their pre-election promises. I hope that they will put aside party politics and work together for the benefit of mothers and babies. I look forward to working with the new Government to make their pledges and promises a reality.”
