RCN welcomes new standards for STI management
The Royal College of Nursing today welcomed the launch of new guidelines on sexually transmitted infections, produced by the Medical Foundation for AIDS and Sexual Health (MedFASH) and the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH).
Standards for the management of sexually transmitted infections, a guide for all providers and commissioners of STI services, cover all aspects of STI management, from diagnosis and treatment to the wider public health role of infection control.
Jacky Rogers, nurse consultant and member of the Standards Project Advisory Group and the RCN Sexual Health Network said.
“With an increasing range of STI service providers it is timely that BASHH and MedFASH have brought together a multidisciplinary team to develop new standards reflecting current best practice (in England).
“The nine standards cover all aspects of STI management and include information and clinical governance, and links to other services through care pathways and sexual health networks. These standards are a must-read for all nurses on the front-line of STI management, to support them deliver best clinical practice and work effectively with specialists and other healthcare professionals in the community and primary care setting.”
