One in seven patients experience more pain, physical and emotional problems a year after surgery than before their operation and a quarter have less vitality, according to new research.
The Dutch study, which included over 400 patients with an average age of 54, analysed subjects at six and 12 months after surgery.
The authors said: “At 12 months after surgery, approximately 15% of patients reported more pain, less physical ability and more emotional problems, and 24% reported having less vitality than before the operation.”
