Hypnotherapy may ease IBS symptoms
Hypnotherapy is effective for easing the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and may clear up symptoms altogether, claims a gastroenterology specialist.
In a BMJ podcast debate on the condition, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital gastroenterologist Dr Roland Valori said dietary measures did not tackle the root cause of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms – an overly sensitised gut – while hypnotherapy could.
His experience of using hypnotherapy in 100 IBS patients showed it significantly improved symptoms in 90 per cent of them and stopped symptoms altogether in 40 per cent.
