Guidance on management of atopic eczema

NICE has published a clinical guideline on the management of atopic eczema in children from birth up to the age of 12 years.

This provides guidance on diagnosis and assessment, management, and providing information and education for children and their parents and carers.

Recommendations for health professionals include:

  • Use a holistic approach;

  • Identify potential trigger factors;

  • Use a stepped approach for managing atopic eczema in children;

  • Use emollients as the basis of management;

  • Offer children and parents or carers information on how to recognise and manage flares.
