HIV patients have a significantly improved chance of survival when a family member or a friend helps to ensure they take their antiretroviral drugs, a study has shown.
Researchers looked at data covering 274 patients at an HIV clinic in Cape Town and found mortality rates were lower amongst those who were part of the model.
The research was carried out by a team at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore and the University of Cape Town and is published in the June issue of journal AIDS.
