ACA annouces commemorative award
The ACA have announced a new award in honour of founder member Dorothy Mandelstam, who carried out pioneering continence work.
The annual award, sponsored by Bullen Healthcare, has a prize of £2000 and gives the winner the opportunity to present their paper at the ACA annual conference.
Award criteria
All applicants must be members of the ACA
Applicants should submit a 2000 word case study on intermittent self catheterization (ISC).
All submissions must include 4 of the 6 criteria identified below. For ease of writing, sub headings may be used for the 4 chosen criteria.
1. Historical perspective of ISC
2. Indications for ISC, to include patho-physiology.
3. Advantages of ISC
4. Patient education involved with ISC ( functional assessment, use of aids, leaflets etc)
5. Characteristics of catheters for ISC (design, packaging, convenience, handling, lubrication etc)
6. Patient perspective, qualitative research evidence.
All case study submissions should:
- Include a front title page - name and details should only appear on this page
- Respect patient confidentiality
- Avoid mentioning the manufacturer or distributer of any product by name
- Include a literature review
- Make practice recommendations referring to current research / literature
- Use Harvard referencing system
- Use 12 font / double spaced
- Adhere to the 2000 word limit (only 10% over is allowed)
