Catheterisation guideline published

Entitled Clean Intermittent Catheterisation: The Patient Journey, the guideline has been endorsed by the British Association of Urology Nurses (BAUN). It will support those nurses are currently engaged in offering clean intermittent catheterisation (CIC) as a therapy and also those who want to learn more about CIC management. The aims of the publication are to:

• deliver a robust patient-focused framework for CIC;
• improve compliance and patient satisfaction;
• encourage successful adoption of CIC;
• promote forward management of CIC;
• standardise evidence based practice;
• recommend regular follow-ups;
• promote and share best practice;
• facilitate CIC audits.

The guideline was developed by The National Intermittent Catheterisation Professional Group (NICPG). The group is made up of nurses from a wide range of specialities including urology, paediatrics, spinal cord injury and continence.
