Diabetes and incontinence link found
Research has shown that there is a link between type 2 diabetes and continence problems.
There is evidence that patients with diabetes are more likely to report lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTs) and the extent these continence problems is under estimated.
This is the conclusion of German researchers who suggest that patients with type 2 diabetes should be screened routinely for LUTs.
The researchers conducted a survey of 4071 patients with diabetes type 2. They found that the incidence of LUTS increased with age, the length of time the patient has diabetes and if they had diabetic complications.
