Stoma care nurses praised by patients

The stoma care team at King’s Mill Hospital have recieved excellent feedback from patients in a recent patient satisfaction survey.

The survey showed that 100% of patients “felt able to ask questions” and “were reassured” when talking to members of the service despite 41% initially feel anxious about meeting the team.

In addition, 97% said they were very satisfied with the care received with 84% agreeing it was “easy to contact” the service.

Jane Cox, lead specialist nurse for the storma care service, said: “The survey reflects the hard work which the team applies each and everyday in helping people who have undergone stoma surgery.

“All the team have a tremendous amount of compassion for this specialist field. We especially enjoy organising the quarterly stoma care social events at the John Eastwood Hospice which allows us to give professional support to a mixture of patients, both new and established.

“Our patients deserve the very best support in dealing with the challenges which this surgery may present to them.”

Carolyn White, the trust’s chief executive, said: “There were some very heart-warming comments included in the survey. This shows the team are simply doing a first-rate job and deserve the congratulations of all the trust.”
