Do you know where you can send your patients for comprehensive information on cancer?

As nurses we know how important it is that patients have everything explained to them properly and access to the right information at the right time.

We do our best to ensure they get the best information while they are with us  but often they will have questions and worries between hospital visits, what do they do then?  Where do you sign post them to?

At Cancer Research UK we have a range of reliable and evidence based patient information services that can help to answer their questions on any aspect of cancer and can also be a support to you.

There are various ways our services can help. Our Nurse Helpline 0808 800 4040 is staffed by experienced cancer information nurses who will respond to any question about any aspect of cancer free and in confidence.  The helpline team have over 125 years of cancer nursing experience behind them and have rigorous quality assurance processes in place to ensure they give the best possible answers to questions from patients and their friends and family. So in times when they can’t get hold of you, they can always call us.

CancerHelp UK our information website is a useful resource for you and your patients alike.  For your patients there is a wealth of peer reviewed information on over 95% of cancers diagnosed in the UK, continuously updated by our information nurses as changes happen to NICE guidance and clinical practice. There’s also extensive information about clinical trials, including our plain English database unique to Cancer Research UK which covers all UK trials that are currently recruiting, as well as those that have closed and have produced results.

We have all been in situations where a patient has come through the doors with a cancer we haven’t nursed for some time, or one we have never come across before. In this case CancerHelp UK is a great place to refresh your knowledge and keep up to date. Here it is easy to find the information you need to understand the cancers your patients have.

Finally there is our discussion forum Cancer Chat.  As nurses we know how important peer support is for our patients.  And you can be sure if you refer people to our forum you are sending them to a safe place to get support from others and find answers to their questions.  Unlike many online forums, all posts to Cancer Chat are moderated and our moderators are backed up by our nurse team to ensure it is as safe as possible for patients to support each other.

To make sure your patients get the best possible information when they don’t have access to you, don’t forget to recommend Cancer Research UK.
