A FUNNY THING…

Student takes a punt on amusing patients

As a student I was once disciplined because I tried to involve patients in a sporting event.

I organised a sweepstake for them on one of the wards during the Grand National, wheeled in the television and encouraged them to get behind their horse.

Only trouble was, it was a cardiology ward and exciting the patients probably wasn’t a good idea. And neither, said the sister as she admonished me, was encouraging them to gamble.

  • Ha, sounds pretty good, I do think it is good to have fun, although I do agree cardiology was not the best place for this.
One thing to remember is that before we come into hospital, patients are us, and when we leave, they become us again, lets not keep treating us as "patients," in this patronising way. We make decisions daily on what we want to be involved in, and enjoy having fun!
