Dermatology nurses in short supply

One in five hospital dermatology departments has no specialist nurses, a national audit of psoriasis care has revealed.

Topical treatments were applied by nurses with no dermatology training in 41% of the 100 UK units surveyed in August, said researchers from the British Association of Dermatologists and the Royal College of Physicians.

‘It is essential that experienced dermatology nurses look after dermatology patients to ensure that they receive effective and sympathetic care,’ they said.
