The NHS is about to get a lot funnier

With Andrew Lansley out of favour with nurses, Beyond the Bedpan decided it was time to start looking for a new health secretary

Well, you voted. And the numbers are pretty emphatic: 98.76% of delegates at this week’s RCN Congress said they’ve no confidence in Andrew Lansley’s management of the NHS reforms.

But if Lansley is out, who’s in?

Never one to waste time thinking, Beyond the Bedpan got down to work. Armed with a log-on to the world’s most authoritative source of information (Facebook), we set out to elect a new health secretary.

And the results of the quiz are in: comedian and former mental health nurse Jo Brand has won by a wide margin (against such worthy contenders as Anne Milton, David Nicholson and Alan Sugar).

Which makes BtB wonder… which of her qualities propelled Ms Brand into the lead? What would a health service led by her be like?

Answers on a postcard please - we’ve got a prize for the best one.
