Alder Hey in patient safety pledge

The Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust has reiterated its commitment to patient care by planning several activities to mark National Patient Safety First Week.

This year marks the third year the national safety initiative has been run and Alder Hey Children’s Foundation Trust has a number of events planned between September 12 and 18.

The initiative, which was launched in June 2008, aims to establish an NHS with no avoidable deaths, or no avoidable harm to patients, and to ensure that staff’s top priority is patient safety.

Alder Hay’s Patient Safety First team leader Dr Theo Anbu is encouraging visitors and staff to complete a short survey on how the trust could improve its service further.

The team’s objectives for the year are to promote a safety culture across the trust; to reduce in-house cardiac arrests by early identification and swift action; to achieve a ten-fold reduction in medication errors and to achieve a 100% uptake of the World Health Organisation’s surgical check-list.
