Florence Nightingale service to be held in Westminster Abbey

This year the service to commemorate the life and work of Florence Nightingale will be held in Westminster Abbey at 6.15pm on Wednesday 11 May 2011.

The service also celebrates the professions of nursing and midwifery and all staff, both qualified and unqualified working in these services, are invited to attend.

The procession of the lamp will be carried by a scholar of the Florence Nightingale Foundation and this year it will be escorted by student nurses and midwives from schools of nursing in Northern Ireland.

HRH Princess Alexandra, Patron of the Foundation, will be attending, Mr David Chapman will give the address and the choir of Westminster Abbey will sing.

Entrance to the Service is by ticket only. These are free and are available from the above address during March and April. For security reasons it is important that you apply in writing or email us or use the proforma on our WebPages under Commemoration Service 2011, and the tickets will be sent to you. Tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
