James Paget trust appoints new director of nursing

James Paget University Hospitals Foundation Trust has appointed Elizabeth Libiszewski as its director of nursing, quality and patient experience.

Ms Libiszewski’s appointment potentially brings to an end a period of rapid turnover among nurse directors at the Norfolk trust.

She replaces Tina Cookson, who joined in April last year on an interim basis from NHS Midlands and East, following the departure of Carole Crocker amid a number of board level changes.

Both its chair and chief executive left during 2012 in the wake of repeated criticism over care standards by the Care Quality Commission.

As revealed by Nursing Times, student nurses were also temporarily withdrawn from the trust in November 2011 to allow it to concentrate on “clinical audit activity”. The move by the University of East Anglia involved 12-15 pre-registration students.

Ms Libiszewski was previously director of quality and performance at Barnsley Hospital Foundation Trust, a post she held for little more than a year.

She joined the Yorkshire acute provider in March 2012, having spent four years as director of nursing and quality at Kettering Hospital Foundation Trust and before that a stint as deputy chief nurse at United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust.

Ms Libiszewski began working in the NHS more than 30 years ago and trained as a nurse in Nottingham. She went on to work in a range of specialties and spent most of her nursing career in intensive care.
