New uniform colour rolled out for senior nurses at North Lincs trust

Senior nurses across Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals Foundation Trust are all now wearing navy uniforms in a bid to help patients easily identify a member of the senior nursing team.

The latest move is for deputy ward managers to wear navy with a pale blue trim and for heads of nursing/senior nurse managers to wear a navy stripe uniform.

The trust’s ward managers, matrons and specialist nurses are already wearing navy blue uniforms.

Deputy chief nurse Tara Filby said: “There are many different coloured uniforms across the trust from porters to domestics, physiotherapists to pharmacists.

“The aim of moving to navy is so that people coming into our hospitals know if they speak to someone in navy then they are speaking to a senior nurse,” she added. “We want our senior nurses to be visible to patients and visitors.”

The move to navy has been carried out as part of a rolling programme of uniform replacement across the trust.

  • Why are we going backwards with this, what is next hats and frilly sleeves? I can't understand why every Trust doesn't just put the whole of the workforce into laundered scrubs of the same colour clearly marked front and back with the simplest job title (nurse, matron, physio, doctor, receptionist, dietician, etc). They put the entire nursing workforce at our Trust into the most uncomfortable uniforms recently (100% thick polyester, high necked monstrosities) to supposedly enable patients to easily identify the different nursing roles. They then had to put up a poster explaining which colour meant what!! So we ended up with uncomfortable unclear uniforms at a cost of hundreds of thousands of pounds!
