Nursing charity unveils new chief exec
Nursing charity the Cavell Nurses’ Trust has confirmed the appointment of a new chief executive.
Kate Tompkins has been appointed chief executive of the trust after a period serving as its acting chief executive.
Before joining the trust, she was regional director for the Royal College of Nursing in the South West.
Her nursing career has included clinical practice in acute surgery and medicine, work as a civilian sister with the army and as a district nurse specialising in long term conditions and end of life care.
She has also gained management experience in the NHS in a number of roles including chief nurse and director of operations, and chief executive.
Simon Knighton, chair of the Cavell Nurses’ Trust, said: “Kate brings to the trust a wealth of relevant experience from both the nursing and health management sectors.
“Her expertise will be essential to the trust as we look to continue our essential work supporting nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants through difficult times.”
The charity, which provides financial support for nurses in need, was established in 1917 following the death of nursing icon Edith Cavell during the First World War.
