Mental health art exhibition opens in Leeds

An exhibition of artwork produced by people with experience of mental ill-health opens to the public next week in Leeds.

The annual event is organised by Arts and Minds and will be held in the Light, an entertainment and shopping centre in central Leeds, from 6 October to 10 October between 10am-7pm.

Arts and Minds is a multi-sector network funded by Leeds Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust, which aims to develop the role of the arts in health and social care as a route to recovery from mental health problems.

The exhibition seeks to increase public knowledge and understanding of mental health through the arts and provide for people with experience of mental ill-health with an opportunity to showcase their talents the public.

Arts and Minds development manger Linda Boyles said: “Our exhibitions give our members the chance to show their talent and potentially sell their work. In alternative approaches like these, Arts and Minds seek to challenge the stigma of mental illness, and show how creative and productive people with experience of mental ill-health can be.”
