Cornwall to get Admiral dementia nurses for first time

  • Comment

Admiral Nurses are to be introduced in Cornwall for the first time, it has been announced.

Dementia UK Cornwall, a local voluntary group, was set up one year ago with the aim of raising funds to bring Admiral specialist dementia nurses to the county.

It has so far raised £60,000, enabling Dementia UK to recruit two Admiral Nurses in partnership with Cornwall Care, the county’s largest care provider.

The two posts will be the start of a community-based service for the whole county, according to the charity.

Lisa Dann, chair of Dementia UK Cornwall, said: “We have received such wonderful support from people across the county to bring Admiral Nurses to Cornwall. We are delighted to celebrate this success and announce that recruitment for these two Admiral Nurse posts has now begun.

“Fundraising will continue as we’re committed to making even more Admiral Nurses available to families affected by dementia in Cornwall,” she added.

Tracie North, director of operations and strategic development at Cornwall Care, said: “Admiral Nurses will make a wonderful contribution to our dementia specialist services and will play a pivotal role in providing the best quality dementia care.”

Dementia UK estimates that over 9,000 people are living with dementia in Cornwall.
