Three healthcare assistants at London’s Whipps Cross University Hospital have been charged with neglect.

Sharmilla Gunda, 35, Annette Jackson, 32, and Akousa Sakyiwaa, 37, will appear on bail at Thames magistrates court on 31 October.

The Metropolitan Police investigated after receiving allegations of abuse at Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust.

Ms Sakyiwaa, of Orange Grove, Leytonstone, and Ms Jackson, of Simpson Road, Hounslow, face several counts of ill treatment or neglect under the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Ms Sakyiwaa was also charged with common assault.

Ms Gunda, of Horns Road, Ilford, was charged with one count of the same offence and one count of fraud in relation to the alleged falsifying of records regarding the number of hours worked.

  • I lived in the USA in the 70s and 80s and my how times have changed. I am so shocked to hear of neglect and abuse towards the patients, in my time it was not something heard of or accepted. The person who did not report the incident should be fired as well as all three accused.
I hope that UK will return to having excellent bedside manner towards their patients. I still love the UK and hope to return soon. When I did my nursing there it was a wonderful experience and the manner in which patients were treated then was of a high standard. Whats taking place there, step up your game.
