One in three experience pain after cytological smears
One in three women will experience some pain, bleeding or discharge after a follow-up cervical cytology test, according to Scottish researchers.
They surveyed 884 women with low-grade abnormal cervical cytology who had a follow-up test in primary care six months later.
The results showed 30% of women had one or more after effects – 15% reported pain, 16% bleeding, and 7% discharge. They tended to be mild and of short duration.
