Macmillan Support Line: free, confidential support over the phone

To complement the treatment and care you provide, the Macmillan Support Line team offers a wide range of information and support for people with cancer – as well as for families, carers and colleagues who may be affected by their diagnosis.

Many nurses also call on behalf of their patients. Whatever stage of someone’s cancer journey, and whatever worries they might have, our experts can help. Every conversation is strictly confidential and dealt with in the professional manner that you’d expect.

The Macmillan Support Line has recently been awarded the CCA Global Standard Accreditation for Help Lines. So you can be sure that people you refer are getting the high-quality service both you and they expect.

The team is made up of cancer information nurses, cancer support specialists, welfare rights advisers and financial guides. They can provide specialist support such as:

  • Help identifying and claiming benefits someone may be entitled to
  • Guidance on things like insurance, mortgages and pensions

Or they can help with more general enquiries, including:

  • providing information on local self-help and support groups and physical activity schemes, such as Walking for Health
  • offering confidential support if someone just needs to talk – whether it’s the person with cancer, their family, carer, friend or even their employer

The Macmillan Support Line is free to call on 0808 808 00 00, and is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm.

Textphone 0808 808 0121, or Text Relay, is available for the hard of hearing. We also have an interpretation service in over 200 languages. Callers just need to state, in English, the language they wish to use.
